Solar Installation Across Virginia
Based in Charlottesville, serving most of Virginia. Our expertise goes wherever it's needed.

Extended Service Area
How we serve areas beyond Central Virginia
We're based in Charlottesville, and our in-house crew handles most installations within about 1.5 hours — that's our core service area covering Charlottesville, Richmond, the Shenandoah Valley, and Lynchburg.
For areas beyond that radius, we may use our in-house crew or our local partner install team, depending on the project. Either way, we handle all design, permitting, quality assurance, and project management ourselves — the same attention to detail, the same warranty, the same Virtue Solar experience.
This model lets us extend our service area to where it's needed most, without sacrificing the quality we're known for.
Extended service areas
- Fredericksburg & Stafford

Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs)
Virginia homeowners earn Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) for the energy their system produces — roughly $27 each for every 1,000 kWh generated. A typical 10 kW system earns 12–14 SRECs per year, adding an extra $324–$378 annually on top of your electricity savings.
We handle SREC registration for you. Virginia also offers a sales tax exemption on solar equipment for cash purchases.
Solar Increases Your Home's Value
Research from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found buyers pay an average of $15,000 more for homes with solar. Zillow data shows solar homes sell for 4.1% more, while Rocket Homes reports they're 24.7% more likely to sell over asking price and spend 13.3% less time on the market.
With energy costs rising, buyers see solar as a way to keep monthly costs predictable. According to Rocket Homes, 67% of households without solar are interested in adopting it. Read more about solar and home values.

$0 Down Solar
Go solar with no upfront cost, anywhere in Virginia
The federal residential solar tax credit ended December 31, 2025, but third-party ownership (TPO) makes solar accessible with no money down. A solar company installs and maintains the system, and you pay a flat monthly rate — typically less than your current electric bill.
TPO is available across Virginia, regardless of which utility serves your home. Your locked-in rate stays predictable for 25 years while utility rates continue to rise. Learn more about TPO financing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you install solar in my area?
We serve most of Virginia. Our in-house crew handles most installations within about 1.5 hours of Charlottesville (including Richmond, Harrisonburg, Lynchburg, and everywhere in between). For areas beyond that, we may use our in-house crew or a local partner team while managing design, permitting, and quality assurance ourselves. If you're 4+ hours away, we may recommend a local company due to cost and logistics — but reach out to confirm.
Is the quality the same with a partner crew?
Yes. We handle all design, permitting, and quality assurance for every project, regardless of which crew does the physical installation. Our partner crews meet the same standards we hold our in-house team to, and every installation is covered by our warranty.
Which utility company serves my home?
Virginia has several utilities, and your provider depends on your exact address. The most common in our service areas are Dominion Energy, APCo, SVEC, CVEC, REC, and HEC. Each has different rates and net metering rules. Share a recent electric bill with us and we'll identify your utility and explain how solar works for your specific situation.
How much does solar cost in Virginia?
Residential solar in Virginia typically costs $2.75 to $3.50 per watt before incentives. A typical system runs $22,000–$42,000 depending on size. With TPO, you can go solar with $0 down. The exact savings depend on your utility's rates and net metering policies — get a free assessment for a personalized quote.
Do I still get a warranty if I'm outside your core area?
Absolutely. Every Virtue Solar installation — whether by our in-house crew or a partner team — is backed by our full warranty. This covers panels, inverters, racking, workmanship, and even roof penetrations.
Virtue Solar is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any utility company. For utility-specific information, see our dedicated service area pages or contact your utility provider directly.
