While we can provide power to your entire existing 200A main panel during an outage, you should minimize your usage habits during a grid-outage, or the batteries may be drained quicker than expected.
Although the FranklinWH battery has a high output of energy (and can run your whole home), it's still recommended to minimize your backup loads during an outage, to make sure you have plenty of energy to make it through the outage.
This depends on your goals. We typically recommend two units for most homes. This allows us to backup an entire 200A panel, with the exception of large heatpumps or geo-thermal systems. To size a system properly, it's important to think about what circuits are most important to you, and what needs to stay powered when the grid goes out.
Generators are sometimes a cheaper alternative to battery-backup that can provide a lot of power for a relatively short period of time. Solar batteries are great at providing a smaller amount of energy over an extended period of time.
If you are interested in protecting your energy for extended outages, solar paired with a home battery is often the best way to achieve peace-of-mind. And if you want complete energy security, you can easily add a generator into the mix with the FranklinWH battery system.
One Franklin aPower 2 has 15kWh of usable energy and can provide up to 10,000W of continuous power. If you are looking at your breaker panel, one Powerwall can run a circuit up to 50A. Two units can provide enough power to easily run most electric panels, although larger loads like heat-pumps and AC units are still not recommended due to how quickly they can drain the batteries.
The Franklin aPower 2 is warrantied for 15 years, and for 60mWh of throughput. In layman's terms, we think it's the best warranty of any home battery on the market.
Yes! These batteries are designed to work with existing solar systems & inverters, and can accommodate large solar installations. It will also charge the battery from your existing solar, and can provide monitoring on how much your system is producing.
We unfortunately do not offer what is considered a true "off-grid" system. These are systems that have no connection to the utility grid. If you are building an off-grid home, we strongly advise looking into a grid connection, or beginning your search for a company to design your off-grid solar system before breaking ground.
