FAQ
Can I power my whole home with batteries?
While we can provide power to your entire existing 200A main panel during an outage, you must minimize your usage habits during a grid-outage, or the batteries may be drained very quickly. Some loads may not be able to run at all, like heat-pumps or electric-car chargers. Although the Tesla Powerwall has a high output of energy, it's still recommended to minimize your backup loads to ensure the maximum reliabilty of your system.
How many Tesla Powerwalls do I need?
This depends on your goals. We typically recommend a minimum of two Tesla Powerwalls for most homes. This allows us to backup a significant portion of the home, and run essentials like the well-pump, refridgerators, lights, WiFi, and more. To size a system properly, it's important to think about what circuits are most important to you, and what needs to stay powered when the grid goes out.
Should I get a generator instead?
Generators are often a cheaper alternative to battery-backup, that can provide a lot of power for a relatively short period of time, while solar + storage is good at providing a smaller amount of energy over an extended period of time. If you are interested in protecting your energy for extended outages with less maintenance, solar paired with Tesla Powerwall is a great option.
How much power can the Tesla Powerwall provide?
One Tesla Powerwall 2 has 13.5kWh of usable energy and can provide up to 5,000W of continuous power. If you are looking at your breaker panel, one Powerwall can run a circuit up to 30A. Two Powerwalls can provide up to 60A, although larger loads like heat-pumps and AC units are still not recommended due to how quickly they can drain the batteries.
How long is the Tesla Powerwall warranty?
The Tesla Powerwall 2 warranty (at time of writing) is 10-years.
I have existing solar, can I add batteries?
Yes! We are now a Tesla Powerwall Certified Installer, which allows us to install the Tesla Powerwall for customers with existing solar systems. The Tesla Powerwall can work with most inverters, and we have installed them on homes with Enphase, SMA, SolarEdge, and Fronius inverters.
Do you offer off-grid solutions?
We unfortunately do not offer what is considered a true "off-grid" system. These are systems that have no connection to the utility grid. If you are building an off-grid home, we strongly advise looking into a grid connection, or beginning your search for a company to design your off-grid solar system before breaking ground.
